Do you have a favorite fruit?
Most of you have probably figured out by now that mine is lemon. I even dedicated a whole section to recipes using citrus.
Aside from lemons though, I also ADORE cherries. I mean adore them so much I can sit down and make a meal off of a bag of cherries and then look for more.
The only reason I haven’t created more cherry recipes yet is because their short season falls right in the middle of summer. I have always wanted fresh cherries in my photographs even if the recipe calls for frozen. Usually once cherries are looking gorgeous, I am completely over the whole cooking and baking thing until the weather cools down.
This year is different though. We are having cooler than usual temperatures for summer and oh I have some delicious cherry themed recipes right around the corner that will be perfect for anytime of year.

Commonly asked questions about this Frozen Cherry Wine drink.
Do I need to add honey to this frozen cocktail?
No. Whether you chose to ad honey will be based on how sweet you like your mixed drinks. It tastes wonderful with or without honey.
Should I use white or red wine?
This is such a good question. I personally prefer using chilled Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio in my wine smoothies. The key to making an adult beverage that you enjoy is to use your favorite wine.
Could I use Prosecco or sparkling wine?
Absolutely! Just make sure to taste test before adding the honey because you may find the wine sweet enough on its own.
How do I use fresh cherries to make this frozen blended drink?
If you are using fresh cherries you will first need to pit them and you can accomplish this in one of two ways.
- Use a chop stick and a bottle with an opening a little smaller than the circumference of a cherry. Put the cherry (stem off) on the top of the bottle with the lid off. Using the tip of the chopstick push through the cherry until the pit falls in to the bottle. Freeze the pitted cherries overnight. *Note: If you don’t have a bottle don’t worry. Just hold the cherry between two fingers over a bowl and push the chopstick through until the pit pops out into the bowl.
- To make it even easier to pit fresh cherries just use this instead.
How to make Wine Slushies in a blender.
The beauty is that making any flavor of wine slushies at home, in your blender, really is very simple. Start with equal amounts of frozen fruit of your choosing and add in the same amount of chilled wine. Blend until smooth. At this point if the slushie is not as thick as you would like add in another 1/2- 1 cup of frozen fruit until desired thickness is achieved. Taste test and add in honey. Keep in mind that tarter fruits may require more sweetness but start slow. You can always add more as you go.
